Hear! Hear! Vomiting worst ever sound, says poll

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

A British online poll has identified the sound of a person vomiting as the most horrible sound in the world.

The poll, which recorded more than 1.1 million votes, was conducted on the BadVibes website where visitors were invited to listen to a range of sounds and then rank them according to their distaste.

Other sounds which made the top of the list include a dentist’s drill, fingernails scraping on a blackboard and aircraft flying past.

The experiment was conducted by Professor Trevor Cox of the University of Salford’s Acoustic Research Centre.

What sounds turns your stomach?
