A pasty with the lot?
Monday, March 5th, 2007Taking its cue from the pizza which these days can be topped, it seems, with almost anything, the humble Cornish pasty has had a makeover. According to reports coming out of the UK, the Proper Cornish Food Company, based in the Cornish town of Bodmin, has held a competition in order to find a new filling for their pasties as a way to mark St Piran’s Day(He’s the county’s saint). The winning combination? A pasty with fish, chips and mushy peas inside put together by a Devon man - Carl Farrell.
If you think that’s hard to swallow, consider some of the other 1,200 sometimes stomach-turning entries:
• octopus, squid and baked beans (mmmm!)
• jelly and ice cream
• haggis, potato and turnip
• an English breakfast (does that include blood pudding?)
• kangaroo and macadamia nuts.
What choice! What do you think would make for a good pasty combination?
