• You mightn’t have realised it was a real place but the island of Montecristo - featured in the Alexandre Dumas book The Count of Monte Cristo - has been opened to the public for the first time in years. Only 1,000 of the 3,000 visitors who will be allowed onto the island - located between the Italian mainland and Corsica in the Tyrrhenian Sea - will be granted full access - the rest will only be allowed to visit the island’s natural history museum.
