Is the atheist experiment over? Human psychology shows us that it is literally impossible to live without looking up to something; without having a north star or highest ideal that we use to define and assess our life.

This highest ideal we would generally call God.
Even if we don’t believe in one of the religious gods, we can’t help but live our life in submission to something be it money, fame, truth, or a leader we value.
Atheists, in effect, fill this gap with the laws of physics, or a scientific world view, but physics doesn’t have much to say about how you should treat your girlfriend – google ‘elevator gate’.
You become what you aim for, you become who your worship. The human psyche is built to look up, our only choice is who we look up to.
