I read once about a death metal band who sing about anarchy, violence, and rebellion against God – you know, don’t follow the rules. They got all upset because people were coming to their gigs, and were not following the rules.

“Someone bought a gun to the gig! They were trying to get on stage. They slashed our vans tyres.”
The irony. Promote anti-social behaviour, get upset when fans are anti-social.
It demonstrates that for most metal or rap bands their ‘anti the system’ stance is a persona, a false guise they put on to sell records, but don’t actually believe. Or, maybe worse, they’ve never really thought about the implications of what they are singing.
We might talk smack against God and morality – until we see the implications of our words. Then it’s not so fun.
