Chris Watkin, in Biblical Critical Theory, says that in the West there are two grand narratives that compete for our worldview. The first says that the ultimate reality undergirding everything is energy; impersonal energy somehow made the universe.

The second says that it was a personal being that did it; God made the universe.
I’m not talking about evolution – that’s irrelevant. God can easily make a universe that makes itself!
What is this about? Would you rather live in a universe where everything – including everything that is personal – is ultimately reduced to the impersonal; to energy.
Or would you rather live in a universe where everything, even the impersonal, is given meaning as it is traced back to a personal God?
They are two radically different views of the universe that either give meaning or take it away. Think about that.Ultimately impersonal or personal?
