Bible Society representatives from around the globe will gather in the US next week for the United Bible Societies’ World Assembly.
The event, being hosted by the American Bible Society which is this year marking 200 years of existence, takes place just once every six years. This year it will see about 500 delegates gather in Philadelphia, home of the American Bible Society’s national headquarters.
Roy Peterson, president and CEO of the American Bible Society, said the organisation “couldn’t be more thrilled to kick off the celebration of our 200th year alongside these inspiring Bible ministry leaders from around the world”.
“It is an exciting time for the American Bible Society but, more importantly, it is an exciting time for the Bible cause,” he said in a statement. “New technology provides unparalleled opoortunities for translation and distribution of God’s Word; and we are looking forward to hosting leaders who are paving the way for people on every continent to experience the life-changing message of the Bible.”
Global Bible society leaders will dress in traditional attire during the event in a reflection of the diversity of the people and cultures they serve. Speakers will include Bishop Angaelos of the Coptic Orthodox Church in the UK and Kirk J Franklin, executive director of the Wycliffe Global Alliance.
On Sunday, 15th May, delegates will attend churches of all denominations in Philadelphia and share stories of how God’s Word is reaching people around the world.
