• You may not have known it needed to but UK department store chain Primark has settled its pronunciation, once and for all. After a debate erupted on social media about how to pronounce the store’s name – customers are apparently split between ‘Pr – eye – mark’ and ‘Pr – ee – mark’, the store decided to settle the debate on its official website. “How do you pronounce Primark?,” the website asks before answering: “That’s a very good question. We like to use Pr-Eye-Mark”. Who knew that was even a thing?
• A Florida church had an unusual visitor recently – an alligator. The gator was spotted wandering the grounds of Victory Church in LeHigh Acres and at one point approached the door. It was greeted by those at the church with Daniel Gregory, the church’s lead pastor, offering it a business card and inviting the reptile to Sunday services. Gregory, who filmed the encounter, told WBBH-TV: “He came to our church. I don’t know what his spiritual condition is. I need to invite this gator to church.” The gator was last seen hurrying away to a storm drain, apparently after the pastor tried to baptise him. Local wildlife authorities said approaching a wild animal can be dangerous and warned against getting as close as the pastor did.

• The reigning queen of Washington’s annual July Fourth burger eating contest had to share her championship trophy on Friday with last year’s second place winner, as the two each ingested 34 burgers in 10 minutes. Molly Schuyler, a mother of four from California, managed to down the 34 burgers – just one shy of her record of 35 – during the Annual Independence Burger Eating Championship hosted by local fast food chain Z-Burger. Her annual nemesis, fellow professional eater Dan ‘Killer’ Kennedy of Pennsylvania, also scarfed down 34 burgers on Friday, placing the two in a tie. In total, 14 of the top independent US ‘professional eaters’ and local area contestants squared off to see who could stomach the most burgers in the allotted 10 minute timeframe, as they competed for $US4,350 in prize money, including the grand prize of $US1,750 cash. Meanwhile, Joey Chestnut broke his own world record on Sunday, consuming 76 hot dogs in 10 minutes during Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest. It was the 14th time Chestnut has won the title in the last 15 years.
