• A US community, fed-up with littering, has launched an aggressive campaign targeting would-be offenders with signs featuring a checklist of why people do so which includes “Mommy still cleans up after me”. The “Operation Clean” campaign, in the town of Babylon in New York state, also features an ad showing a serial litterer watching as a dump truck unloads on his front lawn. The Town of Babylon’s Supervisor Richard Schaffer told the local CBS affiliate the reasoning behind the campaign. “Why do we have to have the moniker of being slobs?” he reportedly said.”That’s why we’re literally getting in everybody’s face now and saying, ‘Enough is enough.” Other responses in answer to the question of why people are littering on the ad’s checklist include “I am lazy” and “I don’t care about natural areas”. First-time offenders can face fines of $US1,000.

• A group of eight teenagers has set a new Guinness World Record for visiting at 272 London Underground stations in record time. The group, who call themselves the ‘Amersham Ambushers’ and are all aged between 16 and 17-years-old, completed the feat in just 18 hours, eight minutes and 13 seconds. They started their journey at Heathrow Terminal 5 and ended at Amersham station. One of the group, Arthur Phillips, told Guinness they wanted to complete this record for two reasons. “It was a fun puzzle planning the route as some of us are quite mathematically inclined, and additionally it allowed us to explore parts of London that we hadn’t ever had reason to go to before.

• A Glasgow hotel is seeking a “breakfast roaster” (and no, we’re not talking coffee) to entertain visitors during the upcoming Edinburgh Fringe Festival. A job listing on RBH website said the AC Hotel by Marriott Glasgow said was seeking a comic to put its guests “in stitches” during the famous event. “Are you a laugh-a-minute lady? A witty wise guy? A rib-tickling rebel? A banter merchant? A comedian, in other words? Then your dream role may be just a scroll away,” the job listing reads. The job comes with free accommodation and travel expenses. Applicants are invited to submit their “favourite breakfast-related joke”. The Edinburgh Fringe Festival runs from 2nd to 26th August.
